Centre Releases ₹527 Crore Under NHM for West Bengal: JP Nadda
Kolkata: Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda on Saturday reviewed healthcare systems in West Bengal and announced the release of ₹527.58 crore under the National Health Mission (NHM).
The review meeting, held virtually with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and senior officials, focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving implementation of key health schemes.
Major schemes discussed included Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
The Centre released the first tranche of ₹527.58 crore out of the total ₹3,505.59 crore allocated to the state under NHM.
Discussions also covered signing an MoU for PM-JAY implementation, along with key public health issues such as immunisation, maternal and child healthcare, and disease prevention.
Nadda stressed the importance of nationwide initiatives like HPV vaccination and the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling for strong public participation.
Both the Centre and the state government reaffirmed their commitment to improving healthcare services and ensuring affordable, accessible treatment for people across urban and rural areas.
