United World Wrestling Defers 2026 World Championships in Bahrain Over Geopolitical Concerns
Manama: United World Wrestling (UWW) has postponed the 2026 World Wrestling Championships, which were scheduled to be held in Bahrain from October 24 to November 1, citing ongoing geopolitical concerns in the region.
In an official statement, UWW said the decision was taken in coordination with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Wrestling Federation after carefully assessing the current situation, including uncertainties linked to tensions in the Gulf region and their impact on travel and safety.
The governing body emphasized that the safety and confidence of athletes, officials, and fans remain the top priority. It added that postponing the event early allows sufficient time to identify a new host nation and ensure smooth आयोजन of the championship.
Despite the delay, UWW reiterated that sports continue to serve as a powerful symbol of unity and peace, especially during times of global uncertainty.
Further updates regarding new dates and venue for the 2026 World Championships will be announced soon.
