Mendhar: In a resounding blow to the drug mafia, Mendhar Police, led by SHO Inspector Aejaz Wani, have registered their 8th FIR under the NDPS Act, further cementing Police Station Mendhar as the most active and effective police station in Poonch district in the battle against narcotics.
The most recent operation was executed following precise intelligence inputs, leading to the establishment of a special naka at New Jaba Bridge, Mendhar. During the checkpoint operation, police arrested Shahid Iqbal, son of Mohammad Shafiq and resident of Gohlad, Tehsil Mendhar. Upon frisking, 12 grams of heroin (chitta) were recovered from his possession. An FIR, numbered 42/2025, was promptly registered under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the NDPS Act at PS Mendhar.
Initial investigation has identified the accused as a key supplier within a larger drug network, actively involved in spreading narcotics among the youth of the region. Authorities are now probing deeper into his financial transactions and communication channels, which have already begun revealing critical leads. Police sources confirm that further arrests and recoveries are imminent.
This successful operation adds to the growing list of accomplishments under SHO Aejaz Wani, a seasoned officer who has previously held key postings in Rajouri, Pir Mitha, Channi, Miran Sahib, Gangyal, Banihal, and Kishtwar. His tenure in Mendhar has marked a notable rise in anti-narcotics operations, positioning the station as a model for effective policing in the region.
Crucially, this success reflects the broader strategy implemented under the leadership of SSP Poonch, Shafqat Hussain Bhat, who is widely credited with assembling a highly capable and mission-oriented police team. With a clear and focused vision, SSP Bhat has consistently emphasized a multipronged approach to combating crime, narcoterrorism, and terrorism, empowering field units and pushing for swift, intelligence-driven action.
Locals have responded positively to this heightened policing effort, expressing confidence in the law enforcement agencies and appreciating their swift, no-nonsense approach to crime. Residents of Mendhar and surrounding areas have begun actively cooperating with police, signaling a strong community-police partnership that is vital in eradicating the drug menace.
This case also raises serious concerns about the expanding drug trade in border areas, with Mendhar emerging as a strategic point of both concern and action. The possibility of cross-border involvement and larger supply chains remains under investigation, and police are not ruling out links to narcoterrorism networks operating from across the Line of Control.
The 8th NDPS FIR registered at PS Mendhar is not just another statistic—it is a testimony to the relentless efforts of a dedicated police team, the strong leadership of SHO Aejaz Wani, and the strategic oversight of SSP Shafqat Hussain Bhat. Together, they represent a proactive force committed to cleansing Poonch of the drug menace, safeguarding the youth, and strengthening internal security in one of the most sensitive regions of Jammu & Kashmir.
