RTO Jammu Cracks Down on Overloading and Unfit Vehicles in Major Enforcement Drive; 18 Seized, 23 Challaned.

Jammu :In a determined bid to strengthen transport safety protocols and ensure the welfare of pilgrims and the general public, Team RTO Jammu launched a large-scale enforcement drive across multiple key locations in Jammu today. The initiative was conducted under the directions of Transport Commissioner Sh. Vishesh Mahajan (JKAS) and the strategic guidance of RTO Jammu S. Jasmeet Singh (JKAS).

The operation focused on a strict crackdown against violations such as overloading, overcharging, and operating vehicles without valid fitness certificates, especially among commercial and passenger transport vehicles actively ferrying yatries and daily commuters during the peak season.

Under the supervision of ARTO FS Er. Bipen Singh Charak and ARTO BOI-P Er. Taramani Sharma, the enforcement teams were deployed at several high-traffic nodes including Jammu Railway Station, Panama Chowk, RBI Chowk, Narwal, 4th Bridge, Ware House, and B C Road.

Key Highlights of the Drive:

Total Vehicles Checked: Approx. 380

Vehicles E-Challaned: 23

Vehicles Seized: 18

Expected Revenue from E-Challans: Rs. 73,000

The inspection teams operated swiftly, conducting thorough on-the-spot checks and verifying documentation such as fitness certificates, permits, and compliance with fare regulations. Particular attention was paid to vehicles catering to Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, where safety and fair pricing are of utmost importance.

The core enforcement team comprised:

Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI): Er. Lakhwinder Singh

Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector (SMVI): Er. Amanish Sharma

Motor Vehicle Traffic Assistant (MVTA): S. Taranjot Singh

The officials emphasized that such drives will be conducted routinely and more stringently going forward. “The safety of passengers and pilgrims is non-negotiable. Overloading and overcharging will not be tolerated. We are committed to ensuring that every transport vehicle on the road is roadworthy and compliant with legal norms,” said ARTO Bipen Singh Charak.

The Transport Department also urged the general public and pilgrims to report any instances of overcharging or transport irregularities to the helpline numbers, reiterating their commitment to providing safe, regulated, and fair public transport services during the ongoing pilgrimage season and beyond.

The operation has drawn appreciation from locals and pilgrims alike, who welcomed the much-needed initiative to tame traffic chaos and unchecked transport violations in the region.
