Opening Ceremony of the Weeklong International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2025 Held at MIMC, Leh
Governor of Bihar, Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, Graces the Occasion as Chief Guest
Leh, June 15, 2025: The grand opening ceremony of the Weeklong International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2025 was held today at the serene campus of Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre (MIMC), Leh. The festival, a convergence of spirituality, wellness, and cultural harmony, is being organized by MIMC Leh and the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh in collaboration with Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, National Institute of Sowa Rigpa, Leh, University of Ladakh, Ministry of Ayush, and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
The Governor of Bihar, Shri Arif Mohammad Khan, attended the event as the Chief Guest, adding significance to the occasion with his esteemed presence.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the ushering in of light, wisdom, and peace.
Ven. Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder and President of MIMC Leh, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. In his address, he elaborated on the vision and purpose of the festival, highlighting its role in promoting holistic well-being, mental peace, and global harmony through the ancient practices of yoga and meditation.
Eminent speakers on the occasion underlined the immense physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga, particularly in today’s fast-paced and stress-ridden world.
As part of the celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga, the dignitaries unveiled a commemorative souvenir magazine, capturing the essence and journey of yoga in Ladakh and beyond.
A special highlight of the event was the presentation of the Himalayan Yoga Awards, which recognized notable contributions in the field of yoga and wellness. Dignitaries and distinguished guests were also felicitated with mementoes and certificates of appreciation.
The opening ceremony concluded with a vibrant cultural programme, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ladakh through traditional music, dance, and performances by local artists and students.
The event was attended by a host of dignitaries including Shri Mohd Hanifa, Member of Parliament (Ladakh); Shri Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor of Chandigarh University; Shri Raghvendra Rao, Director, Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of AYUSH; Shri Chering Dorjay Lakruk, President, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA); heads of various religious and spiritual organizations, venerable monks, yoga practitioners, and a large gathering of enthusiastic students and youth.
The International Festival of Yoga and Meditation 2025 will continue throughout the week with a yoga and meditation sessions.
