Omar Abdullah Urges Unified Push to Revive J&K as Top Tourist Destination
Srinagar, June 30:
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today called for collective efforts to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s position as India’s premier tourist destination. Speaking at FICCI’s ‘Tourism Revival Dialogue’ held at the scenic SKICC Srinagar, the Chief Minister emphasized that a strong partnership between the government and tourism stakeholders is crucial for a sustainable revival.
He underscored the urgent need to enhance the overall tourist experience and to create a more dynamic and resilient tourism ecosystem in the region. A key highlight of his address was Project SPREAD, an ambitious initiative aimed at developing nine new tourist destinations across the Union Territory, reflecting the government’s commitment to diversification and regional balance in tourism growth.
Abdullah also pointed to the immense untapped potential in niche sectors such as MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), golf tourism, and destination weddings. “Jammu and Kashmir is blessed with natural beauty and cultural richness, which positions us uniquely to attract both domestic and international travelers,” he said.
Highlighting the role of improved connectivity and infrastructure, the Chief Minister reiterated the importance of modernizing transport links and hospitality services. He urged members of the tourism industry to remain engaged, share their expertise, and play a proactive role in shaping the future of tourism in J&K.
“Our collective vision and collaboration can transform Jammu and Kashmir into a vibrant, inclusive, and globally competitive tourist hub,” Abdullah concluded.
