Massive Anti-Drug Offensive in J&K: LG Manoj Sinha Pushes ‘Zero Tolerance’ Policy Across Districts

Jammu/Kashmir: The anti-drug campaign in Jammu & Kashmir has intensified significantly, with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha leading a mission-mode initiative aimed at eliminating the drug menace from the Union Territory. In a span of 20 days, the LG visited eight district headquarters—Jammu, Kathua, Ramban, Rajouri, Reasi, Samba, Udhampur, and Doda—reviewing ground-level enforcement, coordination, and public outreach measures.
During these visits, Manoj Sinha held detailed meetings with district administrations and police officers, issuing firm directions for a “zero tolerance” approach against drug trafficking. He stressed the need to dismantle entire drug networks and directed officials to prepare lists of the top 10 drug peddlers, smugglers, and mafia operatives at every police station level to ensure targeted and swift action.
The crackdown has already shown results, with police registering nearly 350 FIRs and arresting around 440 individuals involved in drug-related activities over the past 20 days. Authorities are invoking stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to ensure strict legal action, including financial investigations and property attachment to weaken the operational capacity of drug networks.
The Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat, is personally monitoring the action, ensuring close coordination among district police units and strict compliance with anti-narcotics laws. Intelligence-based operations and increased surveillance across key routes are being prioritized to curb smuggling activities.
Alongside enforcement, the administration has adopted a broader strategy involving public participation. Schools, colleges, NGOs, and media organizations are being engaged under a 100-day initiative to raise awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Community outreach programs and counseling efforts are also being strengthened to address the issue at the grassroots level.
The campaign has received strong support from civil society, with various groups appreciating the Lieutenant Governor’s direct involvement and commitment. Many have expressed confidence that sustained efforts combining strict law enforcement with aggressive participation will help achieve the vision of a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
The administration has reiterated that the drive will continue with full intensity, focusing on both prevention and enforcement to bring lasting change and safeguard the future of the region’s youth.
