LG Manoj Sinha’s Ground Outreach Signals Strong Crackdown on Drug Menace in Rajouri–Poonch

Rajouri :In a first-of-its-kind move, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha traveled to Rajouri by road, marking a significant shift in administrative outreach aimed at understanding grassroots realities and strengthening public engagement.
Officials describe the visit as more than symbolic, highlighting it as part of a broader strategy to intensify efforts against the growing drug menace in the region. The LG’s direct interaction with local stakeholders, accompanied by senior officers, is being seen as a strong message of accountability and urgency.
During the visit, emphasis was laid on coordinated action between the police and district administration. Authorities on the ground have already begun stepping up efforts to curb drug trafficking and ensure stricter enforcement.
Rajouri and Poonch districts, which lie close to the border, have been facing increasing challenges due to cross-border drug smuggling. This has led to rising drug abuse among youth, with several reported cases of overdose-related deaths in recent years.
Sources indicate that the administration is preparing for a more aggressive crackdown on drug networks. Under the provisions of the new criminal laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), properties and bank accounts of those involved in drug trafficking are likely to be frozen.
The administration has also called for collective public participation, urging communities to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies in eliminating drug peddling networks.
The LG’s outreach is being viewed as a decisive step toward building a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir, with a clear focus on prevention, enforcement, and community involvement.
