Jammu Police File Chargesheet in ₹3 Crore Fake Kashmir Blue Sapphire Cheating Case; Serving SI Among Accused

Jammu: In a major breakthrough in a high-value fraud case, the Jammu Police have filed a chargesheet in a ₹3 crore cheating and fraud case involving fake Kashmir Blue Sapphires. The case involves six accused persons, including a serving Sub-Inspector of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, who allegedly duped a Hyderabad-based businessman by selling counterfeit gemstones as rare Kashmir Blue Sapphires.
The accused have been identified as:
1. Mohd Rayaz, S/o Reham Ali, R/o Gurdanbala, Rajouri; A/P Chinor, Jammu
2. Mohd Taj Khan, S/o Haji Jumma Khan, R/o Potha Surankot, Poonch; A/P East Extension, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu
3. Showkat Hussain, S/o Reham Ali, R/o Gurdanbala, Rajouri
4. Mohd Shafi, S/o Abdullah, R/o Gatha, Bhaderwah, Doda; A/P Bhatindi, Jammu
5. Kulwinder Singh, S/o Bachan Singh, R/o Koulpur, Vijaypur, Samba; A/P Model Town, Gangyal, Jammu
6. SI Mohd Maqbool Dugga, S/o Gh. Nabi, R/o Srinagar; A/P Upper Thather, Bantalab, Jammu
As per the investigation, the accused hatched a well-planned criminal conspiracy in which prime accused Mohd Taj Khan posed as the “Raja of Jammu”, while the other accused acted as his agents. They claimed to be selling rare Kashmir Blue Sapphires allegedly sourced from the royal treasure of Jammu, thereby inducing the complainant, Mir Firasath Ali Khan, to part with ₹3 crore.
During the investigation, the Jammu Police successfully recovered and restored ₹62 lakh to the complainant. Multiple fake gemstones, forged documents, and other incriminating materials were seized during searches conducted at the residences of accused Mohd Taj Khan, Mohd Shafi, and SI Mohd Maqbool Dugga.
The FIR in the case was registered on 15 December 2024 at Police Station Bahu Fort, Jammu. The investigation was conducted by SDPO City West Jammu, Dr. Satish Bhardwaj (JKPS), under the supervision of SP South Ajay Sharma (JKPS) and the overall supervision of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh (JKPS).
In a significant step towards strengthening a victim-centric justice system, the police also identified properties acquired by the accused using the proceeds of crime. Accordingly, an application has been moved before the Hon’ble Railway Court, Jammu, under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) for attachment of such properties.
The complainant has expressed his gratitude to the Jammu Police for their timely, professional, and effective handling of the case.
