DELHI: Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following Gandhi’s remarks about reservations during his visit to the U.S. Addressing students at Georgetown University, Gandhi had indicated that the Congress might reconsider the reservation system when “India becomes a fair place.” This comment ignited a political firestorm, with Shah accusing Gandhi of exposing the Congress party’s “anti-reservation” stance.
In a strongly worded post on X, Shah lambasted Gandhi, stating that making anti-national comments on international platforms had become routine for the Congress leader. He accused Gandhi of supporting divisive forces, including the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference’s “anti-national and anti-reservation agenda.” Shah emphasized that BJP’s governance ensures both the continuation of reservations and the protection of national security, asserting that no political entity, under BJP’s watch, could dismantle the reservation system.
Shah further accused Gandhi and the Congress of fostering divisions in India along religious, regional, and linguistic lines. He claimed Gandhi’s comments reflected the long-standing Congress strategy of exploiting societal rifts for political gain. “Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are a reflection of the Congress’s anti-reservation mindset,” Shah argued, signaling that the BJP would stand firm in defending India’s reservation policies.
This incident has reignited a national debate over the reservation system and the broader implications of political leaders making controversial remarks on international platforms.
