Trump Picks Indian-American Dhillon As Assistant Attorney General For Civil Rights

US President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday nominated Indian-American Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the US Department of Justice.

In his statement on Truth Social, Trump praised Dhillon for her unwavering commitment to protecting civil liberties. He emphasized her efforts in challenging Big Tech over free speech, defending the rights of Christians during COVID, and opposing corporate policies that discriminate against individuals.

Lauding Dhillon as one of the top election lawyers in the country, committed to ensuring the integrity of legal votes, Trump underscored her impressive academic credentials, including her education at Dartmouth College and the University of Virginia Law School, as well as her clerkship at the US Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dhillon thanked Trump for his nomination, expressing her eagerness to work on the nation’s civil rights agenda alongside Pam Bondi’s team. She reflected on the support of her late father, Tejpal, and husband Sarv, and expressed her hope to carry forward their legacies with God’s grace.

Earlier, during Trump’s campaign on July 16, Dhillon performed the ‘Ardas’, a Sikh prayer, in his presence at the Republican National Convention.
