The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, participated in the India International Trade Fair (IITF) held from 14 November onward at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The institute showcased the timeless wisdom, scientific relevance, and therapeutic value of the Sowa-Rigpa healing tradition to a diverse national and international audience. As one of India’s largest and most prestigious annual trade fairs, IITF serves as a platform that brings together government bodies, industries, cultural institutions, and global visitors under one roof. This year’s fair witnessed significant participation across sectors and offered a unique opportunity for traditional knowledge systems such as Sowa-Rigpa to directly engage with the public.
At the NISR pavilion, visitors experienced an immersive display of the rich heritage and holistic healing principles of Sowa-Rigpa, one of the oldest surviving systems of medicine practiced across Ladakh, the trans-Himalayan regions, and parts of Central Asia. The exhibit highlighted the scientific foundations of Sowa-Rigpa formulations, diagnostic methods rooted in traditional wisdom, plant-based medicines sourced from Himalayan ecosystems, and the documentation and preservation efforts undertaken by NISR.
A key attraction at the pavilion was the presence of experienced Sowa-Rigpa physicians who provided personalised health consultations, dietary and lifestyle guidance based on individual body constitution, and awareness sessions on preventive healthcare. These services were offered free of cost and drew large crowds of visitors interested in natural and holistic well-being. Many patients expressed deep satisfaction with the quality of care and showed keen interest in adopting Sowa-Rigpa-based treatment approaches for long-term health benefits.
The institute’s active engagement at IITF drew the attention of health-conscious visitors, professionals from wellness and medical sectors, students, researchers, and representatives from various states and international delegations. This extensive participation not only enhanced public understanding of Sowa-Rigpa but also reinforced its growing relevance in contemporary healthcare. Through its presence at IITF, NISR reaffirmed its commitment to promoting, preserving, and advancing the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine. The institute aims to continue expanding its outreach by participating in national and international forums that recognize and celebrate India’s traditional knowledge systems.
