Srinagar : In a major action against narcotics-related crime under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Srinagar Police, in coordination with the Revenue Department, demolished an illegally constructed three-storeyed residential building worth approximately ₹2 crore belonging to an alleged notorious drug peddler in the Rainawari area of Srinagar.
The demolished structure belonged to Sheikh Tasaduq, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, a resident of Mumkhan Mohalla, Rainawari. According to police, the accused is involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, including FIR No. 112/2019 at Police Station Awantipora and FIR No. 81/2023 at Police Station Budgam.
Police further stated that the accused’s spouse, Sheikh Maroofa, is also facing charges in an NDPS case registered as FIR No. 217/2025 at Police Station Pulwama.
During a detailed inquiry into the assets owned and possessed by the accused, authorities established that the three-storeyed concrete structure had been raised on encroached State land and was allegedly constructed using proceeds generated through illicit narcotics trafficking. The action also resulted in the recovery of valuable Government land from illegal occupation.
Investigations revealed that the property constituted illegally acquired assets and represented financial gains allegedly derived from unlawful drug-related activities, apart from being an unauthorized encroachment on State land.
Following the completion of all legal formalities and in accordance with due process, the structure was demolished in the presence of the concerned Revenue authorities.
Srinagar Police said the action reflects its firm resolve to dismantle the financial infrastructure supporting drug trafficking networks and ensure that proceeds of crime are not allowed to be converted into unlawful assets. The police reiterated their commitment to eradicating the drug menace from society and appealed to citizens to continue supporting law enforcement agencies in building a drug-free Jammu & Kashmir.
