*SRINAGAR:* The vibrant political landscape of Srinagar is abuzz as campaigning for the crucial parliamentary elections concluded on Saturday evening, setting the stage for a significant electoral showdown scheduled for May 13. With a diverse field of 24 candidates vying for victory, this election has captivated the attention of the region, promising an exciting and pivotal democratic exercise.
**Strict Measures Implemented to Ensure Peaceful Polls**
To ensure a smooth and peaceful polling process, authorities have rolled out strict measures, including the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC. These restrictions, effective from 6 pm on May 11 until 6 pm on May 13, aim to create an atmosphere devoid of campaign influences, enabling the 17,47,810 eligible voters to cast their ballots freely.
**Diverse Array of Candidates**
The electoral contest in Srinagar boasts a diverse array of candidates from various political parties and independent groups. Notable contenders include Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi (National Conference), Waheed Ur Rehman Parra (J&K Peoples Democratic Party), Muhammad Ashraf Mir (J&K Apni Party), and Amir Bhat (Democratic Progressive Azad Party), among others. **Extensive Arrangements for Polling**

The Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme has played a crucial role in raising voter awareness. From traditional methods like banners and hoardings to innovative approaches like street plays and social media campaigns, SVEEP has been instrumental in promoting active participation.
**Media Coverage and Restrictions**
A contingent of over 600 journalists and media personnel has been accredited to cover the polling process, ensuring transparency while safeguarding the secrecy of the vote. Meanwhile, political activities such as rallies, interviews, and conferences have been paused to prevent undue influence on voters.
**Ensuring Fairness and Compliance**
To uphold electoral integrity, the sale of liquor has been banned, and strict monitoring mechanisms like the C-VIGIL app have been deployed to address any violations of the Model Code of Conduct. Special arrangements have also been made for migrant voters.

In a final appeal to voters, the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K encourages maximum participation in what is heralded as the “biggest festival of the largest democracy in the world.”
