Srinagar : Senior National Conference leader and Srinagar Member of Parliament Syed Aga Ruhullah Mehdi on Thursday emphasized that any political struggle aimed at restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and constitutional guarantees must be rooted in sincerity, consistency, and long-term commitment rather than symbolic gestures or short-lived campaigns.
Addressing concerns over the ongoing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s rights, Mehdi cautioned against what he described as “theatrics and optics” in political movements. He said that meaningful progress could only be achieved through a sustained and credible effort.
“The condition is that there should be sustainability and consistency. If there is no consistency, then there will be theatrics,” Mehdi asserted, stressing that one-day campaigns or temporary political mobilizations would fail to deliver tangible results for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Srinagar MP underlined the need for a united and sincere platform to pursue the restoration of statehood and constitutional safeguards. He said that political leaders and stakeholders must demonstrate genuine commitment to the cause rather than engaging in symbolic politics.
In a significant statement, Mehdi expressed his willingness to resign from his parliamentary position if a credible and unified platform is formed to collectively fight for Jammu and Kashmir’s rights. He maintained that personal positions and political interests should not stand in the way of a larger struggle for the region’s political and constitutional aspirations.
His remarks come amid continuing political debates over the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and constitutional protections following the changes introduced in August 2019.
Mehdi reiterated that the movement for Jammu and Kashmir’s rights requires sincerity, unity, and sustained public engagement, asserting that only a consistent and people-centric struggle can achieve meaningful outcomes.
