President Murmu Calls For Respecting Food, Honouring Farmers And Protecting Natural Resources

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday emphasised the collective responsibility to respect food, acknowledge the contributions of farmers and protect natural resources, highlighting the significance of agricultural traditions and harmony during the Nuakhai festival. The President was speaking at the ‘Seva Samman Parv’ and ‘Yuva Prabodhan’ programmes held in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Nuakhai Celebrates Agricultural Traditions and Social Harmony
Speaking on the occasion, President Murmu said that the Nuakhai Milan Samaroh was not merely a cultural celebration but a tribute to India’s rich traditions, social harmony and unity. “Such occasions provide an opportunity to reconnect with one’s roots, take pride in cultural heritage and pass on important values to future generations,” she said.
President said Nuakhai celebrates agricultural traditions, expresses gratitude to nature and reflects the spirit of community. Food is not merely a means of satisfying hunger but also symbolises the hard work of farmers, the generosity of Mother Earth and the invaluable gifts of nature. She underlined that it was the collective responsibility of everyone to respect food, acknowledge farmers’ contributions and protect natural resources.
President Highlights Progress of Youth Away from Naxalism
The President was happy to note that, through the efforts of the Central and state governments, combined with their own determination, the youth of Chhattisgarh had moved away from the path of Naxalism and joined the mainstream. She said the light of development was replacing the darkness of terror. This transformation, she noted, was contributing to the well-being of young people and their families while accelerating the development of the state and the country.
President Urges Youth to Contribute to Nation-Building
Addressing the large gathering of young people, Droupadi Murmu said that while circumstances and challenges might differ, the youth should have a strong desire to innovate, create something better and establish their own identity. Aligning individual efforts with collective and national goals, she said, would pave the way for the country’s progress.
The President urged young people to dream big, broaden their horizons, uphold the highest standards of conduct and place service to society and the nation at the centre of their endeavours. She encouraged them to pursue their goals with honesty, integrity and sensitivity.
She emphasised that nation-building was achieved not only through major decisions but also through the small, sincere efforts of millions of citizens. Combining knowledge with humility, ambition with ethical values, and success with a spirit of service would strengthen the contribution of young people towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, she added.
Equal Participation of Women Essential for Viksit Bharat by 2047
The President expressed happiness over the participation of a large number of women in the Nuakhai Milan Samaroh and said that their equal participation was essential to achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Urging women to participate actively in the affairs of the nation and society, she said their progress would benefit not only them and their families but also society and the country as a whole.
She also called upon men, particularly young people, to create an environment in which their sisters and daughters could realise their dreams without barriers. Respect for women, she emphasised, should not be limited to words but must be reflected in behaviour, mindset and everyday conduct.
