Payal Kapadia Makes History With Golden Globe Nominations For All We Imagine As Light
Filmmaker Payal Kapadia has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian director to be nominated for the Best Director (Motion Picture) category at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for her film All We Imagine As Light. The film has also been nominated for Best Motion Picture – (Non-English Language), marking two nominations at this prestigious event.
About the Film
All We Imagine As Light is an Indo-French co-production featuring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, and Hridhu Haroon. It narrates the story of Prabha, a nurse dealing with personal struggles, and her roommate Anu, as they confront their desires during a trip to a beach town. The film previously made history by winning the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, becoming the first Indian entry in the competition section in 30 years since Shaji N. Karun’s Swaham in 1994.

The film has also won Best International Film at the New York Film Critics Circle and Best International Feature at the Gotham Awards 2024, further cementing its reputation globally.
Golden Globe Nominees
Announced by Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut on December 9, the nominees for Best Director (Motion Picture) include Jacques Audiard (Emilia Perez), Sean Baker (Anora), Edward Berger (Conclave), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Coralie Fargeat (The Substance). Emilia Perez leads this year’s Golden Globe nominations with 10 mentions, followed by The Brutalist (7), Conclave (6), and Anora and The Substance (5 each).
The 82nd Golden Globe Awards will recognize excellence across film and television. The ceremony will be broadcast live in India on Lionsgate Play on January 6, starting at 6:30 AM IST.
