Nubra, October 4, 2024: The Department of Sociology, Government Degree College , Nubra, held a film screening for students, as part of the Gender Sensitization Curriculum in Sociology. “Laapataa Ladies”, India’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards, was screened during the occasion.
The movie address various important nuances of gender, such as gender stereotypes, gender roles, women’s agency, rural-patriarchal structures and many other issues.
During the screening, Samina Anjum of 3rd semester delivered the welcome note. It was followed by an opening speech by Ms. Spalzes Angmo (Faculty, Department of Sociology). The screening saw a full attendance of students and the faculties of other departments also joined.
The screening was followed by an interactive discussion and a Q&A session, in which students and teachers equally participated and shared their insights.
The program ended with brief closing remarks by Ms. Spalzes Angmo. The Vote of Thanks was then delivered by Assiya Bano and Naziya Bano of 5th semester.
