Night Mock Drill exercises conducted at Choglamsar and Lungmar near Lamdon
Leh, August 21, 2025: In continuation to the Mock drill exercises conducted at different locations of Leh district, an evening mock drill was also conducted under the coordination of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with UT Disaster Management Authority (UTDMA) on August 21 night at various locations. The exercise was led by Secretary DMRRR UT Ladakh Shashanka Ala and Lead Consultant (ME & IRS) NDMA Maj Gen Sudhir Bahl (Retd) along with Chairman, DDMA, Leh, Romil Singh Donk.
The mock drill exercise was conducted at different designated locations, including Tashi Thogsmon Choglamsar, Lungmar near Lamdon School along with a Relief Camp at Food and Craft Institute. At the staging area at NDS ground, resources and equipments such as fire engines, buses, trucks, dozers, crane, excavators, JCBs, Dumpers, road rollers, ambulances, heavy machinery were assembled and arranged for further coordinations.
The exercise prompted a cloudbrust at Tashi Thogsmon Choglamsar. The drill witnessed active participation from villagers, who engaged with keen interest in learning practical methods of evacuation, rescue, and safety during disaster situations. The simulation highlighted real-time response techniques and emphasized the importance of community involvement in minimizing risks and ensuring safety during emergencies.
Major General (Retd.) Sudhir Bahl, lead consultant NDMA attended the drill, inspected the arrangements, and encouraged villagers to participate regularly in such exercises to remain prepared and avoid panic during real emergencies. He also reviewed the functioning of response teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), UT Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), Ladakh Scouts, and medical teams, ensuring smooth coordination and effective execution of the mock drill.
Similarly, a comprehensive Mock drill simulating flash flood in Lungmar area near Lamdon School was successfully carried out around 9pm. The exercise, aimed at enhancing disaster preparedness and inter-agency coordination, involved a comprehensive search and rescue operation by multiple agencies including NDRF, UTDRF, Ladakh Scouts, NCC and medical teams.
A fully functional relief camp was established at the Food Craft Institute, Leh. The relief camp at the Food Craft Institute became the central point for coordinating relief operations during the exercise, providing essential services, including temporary shelter, medical care, food, clean drinking water, and emergency lighting facilities to simulated victims.
Accompanying him at the event were the Administrative Secretary of the Rural Development Department, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Senior Superintendent of Police Leh, SSP Traffic Leh, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, who collectively supervised the drill and assessed its overall effectiveness.
Secretary DMRRR UT Ladakh Shashaka Ala and Lead Consultant (ME & IRS) NDMA Maj Gen Sudhir Bahl (Retd) accompanied by Chairman DDMA Romil Singh Donk and SSP Leh Shruti Arora, SSP Traffic Leh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh and other concerned officers and officials inspected the situation at various affected sites.
The mock drill was successfully conducted by DDMA in coordination with NDMA along with NDRF, UTDRF, armed and paramilitary forces, NCC cadets and different departments like PDD, PHE, Ladakh Police, Food and Supply, Health department and others.
