Leh, June 5,2025: Department of Environmental Science Government Degree College, Nobra, celebrated World Environment Day in the college campus on 5th June 2025.
The program commenced with a welcome address by Tsewang Lahmo, Assistant Professor, Environmental Science, GDC Nobra. She spoke about the harmonious relationship between a clean environment, a healthy lifestyle and conscious living. She further emphasised on the importance of celebrating the world environment day by avoiding plastic use, particularly single use plastic, as microplastic permeate every corner of the planet.
This year World Environment Day calls for a collective action to tackle plastic pollution with the theme “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution”. Dr Tsewang Motup Principal of the college elaborated on the need to avoid plastic in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, including sustainable production and consumption and encouraging a lifestyle rooted in mindfulness.
Subsequently, a plantation drive was conducted at the college Arboretum/Eco Park by the faculty, staff and students, Each participant planted a tree as a mark of love, respect and honour for mother earth thereby launching the Hon’ble Prime Minister campaign “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam”: a nationwide movement to rededicate our younger generation to contribute to a greener future.
The event concluded with an oath by all the participants, pledging to nurture and take care of the plants they had planted.
