Leh, Jan 15, 2025: The Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC) at the School of Agriculture Science and Technology (SAS&T),
University of Ladakh (UoL), Leh campus, is hosting a one-week training program on micro-irrigation systems from January 15 to 21, 2025. Sponsored by the National Committee on Precision Agriculture & Horticulture (NCPAH), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare (MoA & FW), Government of India, the program aims to provide essential knowledge on micro-irrigation to farmers in Leh district.
The event began with a warm welcome speech by Dr. Dechan Angmo, who greeted the chief guest, Dr. D. Namgyal, Associate Director. The event was attended by KVK staff, SAS&T teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and farmers from Choklamsar, Stakna, and Shey villages of Leh district.
Dr. Deldan Namgail, Professor and organizer of this training, then outlined the objectives and importance of the training program, emphasizing the benefits of micro-irrigation systems, such as improving water use efficiency, increasing crop productivity and farmer income, promoting micro-irrigation for water-intensive crops, and generating employment opportunities for local communities.
Dr. Dorjay Namgail, Associate Director of SAS&T, also addressed the participants, stressing the significance of micro-irrigation systems in the current agricultural climate and encouraging the farmers to avail themselves of this opportunity to enhance their knowledge. He wished the participants success for the one-week program.
The training session was attended by Dr. Anwar Hussain, Assistant Professor; Dr. Disket Dolkar, Scientist at KVK Leh; teaching and non-teaching staff of SAS&T; staff members from KVK Leh; B.Sc. Agriculture students; and Basic Agriculture Training (BAT) trainees.
