Keeping in view the need to upgrade treatment techniques, bridge the knowledge gap between traditional healing and contemporary healthcare practices, and empower local practitioners to address today’s health challenges, the Directorate of AYUSH, UT Ladakh,
under the National AYUSH Mission, organised a 3-day Workshop cum Training on “21st-Century Healing: Integrating Ayush/Sowa Modern Medicine & Health Care’” in collaboration with Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh. This is first ever state level training and workshop which exposed AYUSH (Sowa-Rigpa/Ayurveda/Heomopathy) doctors/Healers and Sowa-Rigpa students to both traditional and modern health practices and dialogue. About 100 participants took part in the three day long and intensive event which was inaugurated by the Chief Guest His Eminence Urgyen Rinpochey along with distinguished dignitaries such as Padma Shri Dr. Tsering Norboo, Shri Rajesh Ranjan, Vice Chancellor, CIBS, Dr. Padma Gurmet, Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa (NISR), Leh, Dr. Thinless Yangjor, Dean, Sowa-Rigpa Medical College and Hospital, CIBS, and Dr. Tsering Palmo, President, Ladakh Nuns Associal (LNA). A keynote speech on “Neuro-biology of Addiction” on delivered by Padma Shir Dr. Tsering Norboo during the innuagration.
The workshop emphasised on practical hands-on training session on various Sowa-Rigpa treatment techniques such as Pulse Diagnosis, Moxibustion, Ser khab, Dugs, Zangbum Cupping, and Sowa-Rigpa therapies. Basic training on modern healthcare practices such as CPR and BLS were given with live demonstration and hands-on practice. A panel discussion on Metabolic Diseases was held among the experts from Sowa-Rigpa and modern medicine on the third day. Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director Health Services/AYUSH graced the panel discussion.
