Jungwa Foundation organized the official release of “Bal – A Sheep Wool Value Chain Study for Korzok, Changthang” at The Pal Hotel in
Leh today, 4th February, 2025. The study has been generously supported by InterGlobe Foundation.
The report was released by Hon’ble Councillor Korzok, Shri Karma Namdak in the presence of Dr Asif Hussain, OSD to Honble LG, Dr Sadiq AD Department of Sheep Husbandry Nyoma and other distinguished guests representing various NGO’s in Leh.
The report focused on sheep wool value chain development in Korzok. Jungwa Foundation has been working with herders and weavers from Korzok on a sustainable livelihoods programme and the value chain study forms part of a larger long term strategic planning.
Dr Sadiq, AD Nyoma informed the gathering of the recent initiatives taken by the Sheep Husbandry Department including the establishment of a scouring and carding unit at Nyoma and planned formation of a Farmer Producer Organization which will be set up to focus on development of products derived from sheep and goat rearing.
Representatives from Ledeg, Himmothan, WWF, NCF, Department of Wildlife and young herders and weavers associated with the Jungwa Foundation’s initiative also contributed their valuable insights to the discussion.
