Kathua : Continuing its intensified drive against drug trafficking under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Jammu and Kashmir Police Kathua carried out a major attachment operation in Billawar and froze immovable properties worth approximately ₹35.85 lakh belonging to an alleged drug peddler.

The action was executed by Police Station Billawar under the provisions of Sections 68-A(2)(c) and 68-E read with Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985. During the operation, police attached two single-storey residential houses belonging to Mohd. Sadiq alias Shiku, son of Sheru, a resident of Galak village in Tehsil Ramkot of Kathua district.

According to police officials, the attachment operation was conducted by a team from PS Billawar led by the SHO Billawar Zaheer Mushtaq and assisted by the Incharge Police Post Ramkot. The operation was carried out under the guidance of the SP Upper Kathua and SDPO Billawar, Neeraj Padyar with overall supervision by SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma IPS .

Police said the accused has been involved in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Police Station Billawar. The cases include:

FIR No. 110/2023 under Sections 8/21/22/29 NDPS Act

FIR No. 96/2025 under Sections 8/21/22/27(a)/60 NDPS Act

FIR No. 163/2025 under Sections 8/21/22 NDPS Act

Officials further stated that the accused had also been booked under the PIT-NDPS Act through Divisional Commissioner’s Order No. 01 of 2026 dated January 2, 2026, and is presently lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.

During the investigation, the attached properties were identified as illegally acquired assets allegedly generated through illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The inquiry was conducted jointly with the assistance of the Revenue Department.

Kathua Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling narcotics networks and targeting assets acquired through illegal drug trade. The department also appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against drugs by sharing information regarding narcotics-related activities through helpline number 112 or 9858034100.

Officials said the crackdown against drug peddlers and smugglers will continue across the district as part of sustained efforts to make Kathua drug-free.
