JAMMU: In a significant operation underscoring the Jammu Police’s sustained efforts to combat the dual menace of drug trafficking and illegal arms, the South Zone Police achieved a major success in the Belicharana area. A notorious drug peddler was apprehended, and a cache of arms and narcotics was recovered during the high-intensity crackdown.
The operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Ajay Sharma (SP South) and Sunil Jasrotia (SDPO South), reflecting the department’s proactive strategy to neutralize emerging threats to law and order in the region.
A specialized team from Police Post Belicharana, acting on actionable intelligence and led by the SHO J P Singh of Police Station Satwari, successfully intercepted and arrested the individual identified as:
• Manpreet Singh alias Sartaj, son of Kuldeep Singh, resident of Simbal Camp, Jammu.
Seizure and Charges:
On conducting a thorough personal search, the police recovered the following incriminating items from Manpreet Singh:
• One desi katta (country-made pistol)
• One live cartridge
• Approximately 3.95 grams of heroin-like substance
The immediate registration of FIR No. 91/2025 at Police Station Satwari has been made under relevant provisions of law — specifically Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act.
Context and Significance:
The arrest of Manpreet Singh is being hailed as a critical breakthrough, given his notoriety and suspected linkages with broader drug distribution channels in the Jammu region. The recovery of both narcotics and a firearm points toward a potentially dangerous nexus between local drug peddlers and arms suppliers — a threat the police have increasingly prioritized.
The area of Belicharana, located near the periphery of Jammu city, has occasionally surfaced in intelligence inputs as a transit corridor for narcotics. This successful operation neutralizes a vital link in that chain.
Police Response and Public Appeal:
SP South Ajay Sharma lauded the swift and coordinated effort of his team, affirming that the South Zone Police will continue to act decisively against elements involved in narco-terror and arms trafficking. SDPO Sunil Jasrotia echoed this resolve, emphasizing intensified surveillance and community engagement to root out such criminal activities.
Authorities have once again urged the citizens of Jammu to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local police stations or through helpline numbers. The public’s cooperation, they said, is essential in winning the war against drugs and illicit arms.
This operation marks yet another milestone in Jammu Police’s ongoing campaign to protect the youth and preserve peace in the region. With determined leadership and community support, the South Zone Police is steadily dismantling the web of crime threatening the region’s social fabric.
