Indian Women’s Cricket Team Shortlisted For Laureus World Team Of The Year Award

The World Cup-winning Indian women’s cricket team has been shortlisted for the Laureus World Team of the Year Award following its historic triumph at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said on Tuesday.
Instituted in 2000, the Laureus World Sports Awards recognise the most outstanding and inspirational achievements in sport each year.
The nomination follows a landmark year for Indian cricket, highlighted by the team’s maiden ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title in 2025 — a moment widely seen as a milestone in the history of women’s cricket in the country.
The Indian side produced a series of composed performances during the tournament, overcoming top-ranked opponents to lift the trophy and secure India’s first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title.
The achievement has also been viewed as a reflection of the steady growth and increasing investment in women’s cricket in India over the past decade.
The Indian team has been shortlisted alongside Paris Saint-Germain (football), McLaren Formula 1 Team, the European Ryder Cup team (golf), the England women’s football team and the Oklahoma City Thunder (basketball).
The shortlists across categories are decided through votes by more than 1,000 sports media representatives from over 70 countries.
The winners will be announced at the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony scheduled to be held in Madrid on April 20.
Reacting to the nomination, BCCI president Mithun Manhas said it was a matter of immense pride for Indian cricket and reflected the team’s extraordinary performance in winning the World Cup.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the 2025 World Cup triumph was a “watershed moment” for the country’s cricketing ecosystem and had inspired a new generation of young girls to take up the sport.
