Srinagar : In a significant development along the volatile Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by heavily armed terrorists in the Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday. The anti-infiltration operation, which is still ongoing, resulted in the elimination of three unidentified terrorists.

The Chinar Corps, a Srinagar-based unit of the Indian Army, confirmed the success of the operation through a statement on X (formerly Twitter): “03x Terrorists have been eliminated in the ongoing anti-infiltration operation on the #LoC in Keran Sector, alongwith recovery of weapons and other war-like stores.”

According to military sources, the vigilant troops detected suspicious movement along the LoC and engaged the infiltrators. The ensuing firefight led to the neutralization of the terrorists. The Army also recovered a significant cache of weapons and other warlike materials from the site, underscoring the preparedness and intent of the infiltrators.

The operation in the Keran sector highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in preventing cross-border terrorism. The region has been a hotspot for infiltration attempts, with militants frequently trying to breach the heavily fortified LoC.

The infiltration bid comes amidst a series of heightened security measures in the region. Recently, the Army, along with paramilitary forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, has intensified operations to dismantle terrorist networks, destroy hideouts, and arrest over-ground workers (OGWs) who provide logistical support to militants.

The security forces have also been proactive in enhancing surveillance and fortifying positions along the LoC and other sensitive areas to preclude further infiltration attempts. This includes manning mountain tops and deploying advanced surveillance equipment to monitor and intercept any suspicious activities.

The Indian Army’s steadfast commitment to securing the nation’s borders has been lauded by military analysts and officials alike. The successful foiling of the infiltration attempt in Keran is seen as a testament to the relentless efforts of the security forces to safeguard the region from terrorist threats.

As the operation continues, further details are awaited. The security forces remain on high alert to ensure the safety and security of the region’s residents and to thwart any future infiltration attempts.
