India Makes Formal Bid To Host 2036 Olympics: MYAS Source
India has officially submitted its bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, as reported by ANI, citing a source from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
A formal ‘Letter of Intent’ was sent by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission on 1 October, expressing India’s interest in hosting the event, the report said.
India recently concluded its campaign at the Paris Olympics, bringing home a total of six medals—five bronze and one silver.
In September, Prime Minister Modi expressed confidence that the Summer Olympics would soon be held in India. Addressing the Indian diaspora at Nassau Coliseum in New York, the Prime Minister stated that India is making every possible effort to host the 2036 Games.
The Prime Minister also emphasised the government’s “athlete-centric” approach, noting that India is evolving both as a “sporting culture” and a “sporting society.”
Over recent years, India has made significant strides in multi-sport events. At the 2023 Asian Games and Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, India surpassed the 100-medal mark for the first time, ending with 107 and 111 medals, respectively. In 2022, India claimed 61 medals at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, though the nation’s highest-ever tally remains 101 medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held on home soil.
India finished 71st in the medal table at the Paris Olympics, while the United States led with a total of 126 medals.
