JAMMU : In a major crackdown against criminal elements and anti-social activities, District Administration Jammu has detained a notorious habitual offender under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act (PSA), reinforcing the ongoing campaign against gangsters, drug peddlers, and criminal networks in the region.
Official sources said that District Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas (IAS), issued a detention warrant under Section 8(1)(a) of the J&K Public Safety Act, 1978, against Veer Vikrant Singh alias Sahil alias Shooter, son of Ashok Singh Manhas, a resident of Paloura, Janipur.
The detention order, bearing No. PSA 04 of 2026, was issued on the basis of a detailed dossier submitted by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, citing the accused’s repeated involvement in serious criminal activities and his continued threat to public peace and security.
According to police, the accused, despite being only 20 years old, has a long criminal history with multiple FIRs registered against him at Police Stations Bakshi Nagar, Janipur, and Nagrota. His criminal activities allegedly include unlawful possession and use of weapons, armed assaults using swords and hockey sticks, firing of illegal firearms outside residential houses, robbery, and criminal intimidation.
Police officials stated that the accused repeatedly secured bail in various cases and allegedly resumed criminal activities soon after his release, creating fear and insecurity among local residents.
The District Magistrate, while issuing the detention order, observed that although personal liberty is a fundamental right, it cannot be allowed to endanger the collective right of society to live peacefully. The order noted that preventive detention had become necessary to prevent the accused from acting in a manner prejudicial to the maintenance of public order.
Following the order, the accused was lodged in District Jail Udhampur. The warrant was executed by PSI Sanat Sharma of Police Station Janipur under the supervision of senior officers.
Meanwhile, Jammu Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and continuing its intensified drive against criminals, gangsters, drug peddlers, and anti-social elements operating in the region.
SDPO City West Jammu stated that police are taking stringent action against individuals involved in organized crime, illegal weapons, narcotics trade, and activities threatening peace and stability. He said the department remains committed to dismantling criminal networks and protecting youth from the growing menace of drugs.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing information regarding criminal activities and drug trafficking in their respective areas.
Officials maintained that the ongoing crackdown reflects the administration’s resolve to ensure peace, public safety, and a drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir.
