Divisional Commissioner, UT Ladakh, Shurbir Singh visited Old Town area of Leh on Monday evening to assess the long-standing civic problems. He was accompanied by Administrative Secretary, PWD, Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Romil Singh Donk, and senior officers from PWD, PDD, Municipal Committee Leh, and other concerned departments.

During the visit, the team carried out a thorough inspection of all congested pockets of the Old Town. The officials reviewed key issues including sewage and drainage problems, haphazard electricity wiring, and the poor condition of footpaths and walkways.

The Divisional Commissioner issued clear instructions to the concerned departments to prepare detailed project proposals and documentation for comprehensive sewage management with scientific disposal of drainage, construction of hassle-free and aesthetically appropriate walkways using traditional slate stones to preserve the heritage character of the area, proper streamlining of electricity wiring, installation of adequate street lighting to eliminate dark spots, and strengthened waste management measures by the Municipal Committee.

The Divisional Commissioner and accompanying officers also interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns, and assured them that all genuine issues raised by them would be duly addressed during the planning and execution of the works. He directed all development works should be carried out with proper planning and management so that local residents and tourists face minimum inconvenience.
