DIG Udhampur–Reasi Range Reviews Disaster Preparedness, Directs Round-the-Clock Readiness Amid Inclement Weather

Udhampur : In view of the prevailing inclement weather conditions, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Udhampur–Reasi Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, chaired a comprehensive review meeting through video conferencing to assess the preparedness and response mechanism in Udhampur and Reasi districts.

The meeting was attended by SSP Udhampur, SSP Reasi, Commandants of 1st and 24th JKAP IR, Commandants of CRPF 137th, 187th, 126th and 6th Battalions, Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY (Udhampur and Reasi), Additional SP Udhampur, Additional SP Katra, Additional SP Reasi, all SDPOs/DySPs (PCs/HQrs) of Udhampur and Reasi, DySP NDRF, DySP SDRF, DySP Traffic UR Axis, Adhoc Commandants deployed for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY), all SANJY Zonal Officers, SHOs, In-Charges of Police Posts, SOG Camp officers and representatives of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

During the meeting, the DIG reviewed the prevailing weather situation and directed all stakeholders to maintain a high level of preparedness and ensure seamless coordination among the Police, CAPFs, Civil Administration, PWD, PMGSY, NHAI, NDRF and SDRF for an effective and timely response to any emergency.

Sharma instructed all police establishments to remain on 24×7 operational alert, with fully functional control rooms ensuring uninterrupted communication. He directed that Quick Response Teams (QRTs), rescue teams and disaster response equipment remain on immediate standby to tackle any eventuality.

The DIG also ordered intensified patrolling in landslide-prone, flood-prone and other vulnerable areas, while directing the deployment of police personnel at critical road stretches, bridges, nallahs and sensitive locations to safeguard public safety. He stressed the need for timely traffic regulation and diversions wherever required to prevent accidents and ensure smooth movement.

Highlighting the importance of inter-agency coordination, Sharma instructed officers to maintain close liaison with the Civil Administration, SDRF, NDRF, Health Department, Fire and Emergency Services and other line departments. He also directed coordination with NHAI, PWD (R&B) and PMGSY for the immediate clearance of landslides and debris, and the prompt restoration of road connectivity. Heavy machinery, including JCBs and excavators, was ordered to be positioned at identified vulnerable stretches for swift deployment.

The DIG further emphasized the need for issuing timely public advisories through social media platforms, local media and public announcement systems to keep citizens informed about weather conditions, road status and safety measures.

Reiterating that protection of human life remains the highest priority, Sharma instructed all officers to respond swiftly and effectively to any weather-related incident. He warned that no laxity would be tolerated and directed that all preventive, rescue and relief measures be implemented in a coordinated, professional and time-bound manner.

The meeting concluded with all participating agencies reaffirming their commitment to work in close coordination to ensure public safety, maintain essential services and minimise disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
