DIG JKS Range Meets Protesting Locals in Billawar, Assures Enhanced Security Measures

Billawar : In a significant development, DIG Jammu-Kathua-Samba (JKS) Range, Shiv Kumar (IPS), camped at Billawar to engage with protesting residents from Malhar, Malad, Marhoon, Deota, and Billawar town over security concerns. The meeting, held amidst growing public anxiety, focused on enhancing security infrastructure in these remote villages, particularly in light of recent threats and incidents.
Key Security Measures Announced:
1. Induction of More Village Defence Guards (VDGs) – The number of VDGs will be increased, with new recruits being equipped with semi-automatic weapons for better preparedness.
2. Advanced Training for VDGs – Special training programs will be conducted to enhance their capability in anti-terror operations, including coordination with J&K Police, Special Operations Group (SOG), Army, and CRPF.
3. Strengthening Presence of Security Forces – More J&K Police, Army, and CRPF deployments will be positioned strategically across vulnerable areas.
4. Community-Police Engagement – Frequent police-public meetings will be organized in the region to address grievances, strengthen trust, and ensure better coordination between locals and security agencies.
Top Officials Meet Families of the Deceased:
In a parallel engagement, DIG Shiv Kumar, accompanied by SSP Kathua Shobit Saxena (IPS), SDPO Billawar Neeraj, DySP Operations Malhar, SHO Billawar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Billawar Vinay Khosla, and Tehsildar Malhar Amit Kumar, met with the families of the deceased to express condolences.
The bodies were recovered after an extensive joint search operation conducted in extremely difficult terrain, involving:

• Army
• CRPF
• Special Operations Group (SOG)
• Village Defence Guards (VDGs)
• Local volunteers
DIG Shiv Kumar assured the grieving families that the security forces stand with them in this difficult time and that all possible measures will be taken to ensure their safety.
Resolution of Protest, Call for Long-Term Stability:
Following the DIG’s assurances, the protesting locals dispersed peacefully, signaling trust in the administration’s commitment to improving security. However, residents urged that the promised measures be implemented swiftly to prevent future threats.
