JAMMU : In view of the surge in demand for essential utilities during the ongoing summer season, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Minhas IAS on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the status of drinking water and power supply across both rural and urban areas of the district.
The meeting focused on evaluating the preparedness of the concerned departments to ensure uninterrupted supply of potable water and electricity during the peak summer months, when consumption levels typically witness a sharp increase.
Reviewing the functioning of the power distribution network, Dr. Minhas directed the officials concerned to ensure the timely repair and replacement of damaged transformers and other critical infrastructure to prevent prolonged outages. He emphasized the need for maintaining adequate stocks of transformers and related equipment so that faults can be addressed without delay.
Taking stock of the drinking water scenario, the Deputy Commissioner instructed the Public Health Engineering authorities to closely monitor water supply systems and take immediate corrective measures wherever shortages are reported. He further directed that emergency water tanker services be deployed promptly in affected areas to ensure uninterrupted access to drinking water for residents.
Dr. Minhas stressed the importance of proactive monitoring and swift response mechanisms to address public grievances related to power and water supply. He called upon field officers to remain vigilant and ensure that complaints are resolved within the shortest possible time.
Highlighting the significance of coordinated efforts, the Deputy Commissioner underscored that seamless interdepartmental collaboration is essential for effectively managing summer-related challenges. He said that administrative synergy among all stakeholder departments would play a crucial role in ensuring efficient service delivery and minimizing inconvenience to the public.
The officers present at the meeting briefed the Deputy Commissioner on the existing infrastructure, supply position, contingency plans, and measures being implemented to meet the increased demand during the summer season. Dr. Minhas directed all departments to maintain close coordination and remain prepared to respond to any emergent situation promptly.
Reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to public welfare, Dr. Minhas emphasized that ensuring reliable water and power supply remains a top priority and instructed officials to take all necessary steps to safeguard essential services during the summer month.
