JAMMU : In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at promoting tourism and showcasing Jammu’s rich cultural, historical and religious heritage, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, IAS, has launched ‘Raahi Hop Jammu’, a free sightseeing bus service for tourists and local residents.
The innovative concept, conceived by DC Jammu Rakesh Minhas, is designed to provide visitors with a hassle-free opportunity to explore some of Jammu’s iconic tourist destinations while giving a major boost to the region’s tourism sector and local economy.
According to official sources, the service has been strategically launched during the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, when lakhs of pilgrims from across the country pass through Jammu. The administration believes that introducing yatris to the city’s heritage attractions will create lasting impressions and generate positive word-of-mouth publicity, encouraging them and others to revisit Jammu as a standalone tourist destination.
The Raahi: Hop Jammu service offers free guided sightseeing to several prominent destinations, including Akhnoor Fort, Pandav Gufa, Jia Pota Ghat, Sant Baba Sunder Singh Ji Gurudwara, and other important heritage and religious sites.
On the inaugural day, Shri Amarnath Ji Yatris enthusiastically availed the free sightseeing tour and appreciated the district administration’s effort to introduce them to Jammu’s lesser-explored attractions beyond the pilgrimage route. Many visitors described the initiative as a unique and thoughtful step that adds value to their journey.
The district administration has also opened online bookings for the public from July 8, enabling both tourists and local residents to reserve seats conveniently for the sightseeing service.
Officials believe the initiative reflects DC Jammu Rakesh Minhas, IAS’s vision of developing Jammu as a vibrant tourism destination by improving visitor experience, increasing footfall at heritage sites and creating new opportunities for local businesses, transport operators, artisans and the hospitality sector.
With ‘Raahi: Hop Jammu’, the district administration hopes to redefine tourism promotion in Jammu by combining accessibility, heritage awareness and visitor convenience through an innovative public service that could serve as a model for other districts in the Union Territory.
