Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Announces Reward Of ₹10 Lakh For Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who became the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Monday.
Suryavanshi struck a 35-ball hundred for Rajasthan Royals in their eight-wicket win over Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, becoming the youngest centurion in T20 history and the second-fastest in the IPL after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball effort in 2013.
Facing a Gujarat Titans bowling lineup with a combined 694 international appearances, the teenager displayed aggressive shot-making and composure beyond his age before being dismissed by a yorker from pacer Prasidh Krishna.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of the IPL,” the chief minister said in a post on X. “He has become a new hope for Indian cricket as a result of his hard work and talent.”
Kumar said he had met Suryavanshi and his father in 2024 and had since spoken to the cricketer by phone following his record-breaking innings.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan also praised the teenager’s performance, calling it “a beautiful start at such a young age” and expressing confidence in Suryavanshi’s future in Indian cricket.
The left-handed batter’s performance has generated widespread attention across India, with fans and analysts hailing him as one of the most promising young talents to emerge from the domestic circuit.
