Rajasthan: Union Home Minister on Thursday directed authorities to implement a strict “zero tolerance” policy against illegal constructions within 15 kilometres of India’s international borders and ordered the demolition of all such structures that have come up over the years.

Chairing a high-level security review meeting in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district, Shah stressed the need for stronger border management and enhanced coordination among security and administrative agencies to curb infiltration, narcotics smuggling, terror financing and other cross-border crimes.

During the meeting, the Home Minister instructed officials to intensify surveillance along border regions and ensure strict monitoring of illegal activities that pose threats to national security. He emphasized that border security should not be limited to physical protection alone, but should also address financial and cyber-related threats linked to cross-border networks.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has also assigned expanded responsibilities to district magistrates in border areas. Officials have been asked to closely monitor suspicious banking transactions, identify mule accounts, detect fake companies and forged Aadhaar cards, and track illegal funding channels operating in sensitive regions.

Shah further called for the adoption of a comprehensive “360-degree border security model” involving active participation from citizens, local administration, the Border Security Force (BSF), intelligence agencies and multiple central government departments.

He highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between central and state agencies to strengthen national security and ensure that border areas remain free from illegal activities and anti-national networks.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, BSF, intelligence agencies and the Rajasthan administration were present during the review meeting.
