Jammu : In a significant move against drug peddling, Jammu and Kashmir Police today attached properties worth โน1.04 crore belonging to two notorious drug peddlers in the Ragoora area of Jammu district. The residential houses, located in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, were owned by Javed Ahmed, son of Abdul Ghani, and Abdul Majeed (alias Bhallu), residents of Lower Ragoora (Dawara), Jammu. The properties were seized under Section 68-F(1) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Investigation and Property Seizure:
During the investigation conducted by Jammu Police, it was established that the seized properties had been acquired through proceeds of narcotics trade. A board of engineers formed by the Executive Engineer (XeN) of Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department, along with the Revenue Department, conducted an assessment, valuing the properties at โน1 crore 4 lakh and 71 thousand.
The assessment report confirmed that the value of these properties far exceeded the known legal income of the owners, pointing to their involvement in illicit drug trafficking. The seized properties are linked to a series of narcotics-related cases, including:
FIR No. 9/2023 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at PS Nagrota, Jammu
FIR No. 33/2020 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act at PS Janipur, Jammu
FIR No. 39/2019 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act at PS Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu
Previous Operations and Freezing of Properties:
This recent attachment is part of an ongoing crackdown by Jammu Police against drug peddlers. In the last five months, four additional properties, worth crores, have been frozen by the police. These include three properties in Rajeev Nagar under PS Bahu Fort and one in Ragoora under PS Bagh-e-Bahu.
Public Reaction and Police Commitment:
The entire operation was supervised by SP South Ajay Sharma, SDPO East Sheezan Bhat, and SHO Bagh-e-Bahu Vijay Verma. Their combined efforts have underscored Jammu Policeโs resolve to fight the drug menace. The use of stringent legal provisions under the NDPS Act to seize and freeze properties gained through illicit drug trade serves as a strong deterrent to those involved in narcotics trafficking.
SSP Jammuโs Appreciation:
SSP Jammu has commended the teamwork and dedication of the police, with special appreciation for the South Police Division, which has been working aggressively against drug trafficking. The division has busted numerous drug trafficking modules and attached multiple properties of drug dealers, reinforcing Jammu Policeโs firm stance against narcotics and its commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
This operation is a testament to the Jammu Police’s unwavering commitment to enforcing law and order and safeguarding the community from the dangerous impacts of drug peddling. By targeting the financial gains of drug traffickers, the police aim to dismantle the economic foundations of narcotics operations in the region.
