JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav IAS and SSP Jammu Joginder Singh were also present on the occasion, along with Joint Commissioner (Revenue and Enforcement) Kulbhushan Khajuria, Joint Commissioner (Administration) Rajiv Khajuria, Deputy Commissioner (North), JMC, Sanjay Badayal, other senior officers of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, and a large number of citizens and yoga enthusiasts.
The session was conducted by Yoga Guru Acharya Dr Karan, Chairman of Vishwa Yoga Sansthan, who guided the participants through a series of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation exercises. The tranquil surroundings of the Tawi Riverfront provided an ideal setting for the session, creating an atmosphere conducive to peace, positivity and holistic well-being.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers underlined the importance of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental well-being and emotional balance. They stressed that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic discipline that strengthens the body, calms the mind and contributes to a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
Citizens were encouraged to incorporate yoga and regular physical activity into their daily routines to improve their overall quality of life.
Speaking to the media, JMC Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav IAS said that the Corporation is committed to developing the Suryaputri Tawi Riverfront as a vibrant, accessible and year-round public space for the people of Jammu.
He said that as arrangements for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra are gradually winding down, the JMC has started focusing on reviving and expanding a range of regular activities at the riverfront. Initiatives related to yoga, fitness and recreation, he added, are aimed at encouraging citizens to make greater use of the facility while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Dr Yadav appealed to the people of Jammu to visit the riverfront with their families, particularly during the morning and evening hours, and make use of its open spaces and facilities for fitness, recreation, leisure and relaxation.
He further stated that the JMC would continue to introduce meaningful and public-oriented activities at the riverfront to enhance its appeal as a vibrant community space and encourage greater citizen participation.
The yoga session was also organised in the run-up to Independence Day, adding to the spirit of unity, wellness, community participation and responsible citizenship.
The programme concluded with an appeal to citizens to make yoga and regular physical activity an integral part of their daily lives and collectively contribute towards building a healthier, fitter, more active and vibrant Jammu.
