Kolkata : Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday said that a commission of inquiry would be constituted to investigate alleged atrocities in West Bengal, including the incidents in Sandeshkhali and the RG Kar rape-murder case.

Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said the proposal had been announced earlier by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the release of the BJP manifesto.

“The day our manifesto was declared, Amit Shah had said that all the atrocities that took place from Sandeshkhali to RG Kar will be probed by a commission. If anything is found, FIRs will be registered and those named will be jailed,” Adhikari said.

He added that the inquiry into the alleged incidents would be conducted by a retired High Court judge, while cases related to institutional corruption would be investigated by a retired Supreme Court judge.

Earlier in the day, Adhikari met West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal and thanked the Election Commission for conducting what he described as a peaceful and fair election process.

“This time, many people from the highrises in Bhabanipur were able to vote. Previously, they could not vote as gates of the highrises used to be locked from outside,” he alleged.
