A 250-member youth delegation from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday called on Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan at Uprashtrapati Bhavan.
The delegation is part of the ‘Watan Ko Jano’ initiative, a programme organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir administration, aimed at enabling young people from the region to explore different parts of the country and strengthen their sense of national identity.
Interacting with the students, the Vice President lauded their energy and aspirations, describing them as “vibrant and determined young minds.” He said initiatives like ‘Watan Ko Jano’ play a vital role in promoting the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” by encouraging cultural exchange, awareness, and confidence among youth.
Referring to his recent visit to Srinagar, V-P Radhakrishnan highlighted the progress made in women’s empowerment in Jammu and Kashmir, noting that increasing participation of women in education and social sectors reflects the region’s transformation.
He also praised the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team’s historic Ranji Trophy victory, calling it a testament to the potential and rising confidence of the region’s youth.
Emphasising the broader development trajectory, the Vice President said Jammu and Kashmir has immense potential to emerge as a global tourism destination, given its natural beauty and cultural richness. He encouraged the youth to seize opportunities in education, technology, tourism, and entrepreneurship, and contribute to building a peaceful and prosperous future.
The Vice President also noted the growing success of students from the region in competitive examinations such as Civil Services, IIT, and IIM, underscoring the expanding aspirations among young people.
Calling for a healthy and responsible youth population, V-P Radhakrishnan urged students to stay away from drugs and promote awareness among peers, stating that a strong nation is built on the foundation of healthy youth.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who was present on the occasion, highlighted the developmental progress in Jammu and Kashmir over the past decade and noted that the aspirations of its youth have significantly risen.
