Jammu: With the annual Amarnath Yatra 2025 approaching, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and Inspector General of Police Bhim Sen Tuti today conducted a comprehensive review of the preparations at the Yatri Niwas in Bhagwati Nagar — the key base camp for Yatris (pilgrims) in Jammu. Their visit aimed at ensuring seamless coordination among departments to provide a secure, hygienic, and comfortable environment for the thousands of pilgrims expected to pass through the base camp en route to the holy cave shrine.
Joint Inspection with Focus on Infrastructure and Services:
Accompanied by senior officers from the Civil Administration, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and various departments, the Div Com and IGP undertook an on-ground inspection of the Yatri Niwas complex. They reviewed the ongoing infrastructure upgrades and assessed the quality and pace of work to ensure timely readiness.
The officials emphasized enhancing the base camp’s capacity to handle the anticipated influx of pilgrims while ensuring strict adherence to safety, sanitation, and logistical norms.
Department-Wise Responsibilities and Deadlines:
A detailed inter-departmental review meeting followed the inspection, where action points were clearly outlined. The Div Com issued firm directives for all preparatory works to be completed by June 20 — giving just a week’s window for final readiness.
Key highlights from the review include:
• Public Works Department (PWD):
Directed to complete construction of sentry posts in accordance with CRPF recommendations. Additional directives included installing langar sheds and German hangers for food and shelter facilities within the camp.
• Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC):
Commissioner Devansh Yadav was asked to ensure regular deployment of sanitation staff, installation of temporary toilets at critical spots, and desiltation of the nearby canal to avoid waterlogging or hygiene issues.
• Information Department: Director Nitish Rajora was tasked with establishing a Public Address System and installing speakers in the halls to keep pilgrims well-informed on real-time advisories, safety instructions, and important updates.
• JPDCL (Power Department):
Asked to expedite work on illumination in and around the Yatri Niwas. Sufficient generators are to be deployed to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply throughout the Yatra period.
• Health Department: Instructed to maintain stockpiles of essential medicines, medical equipment, ambulances, and to deploy adequate medical personnel at the base camp and other critical transit points.
• JKRTC & Transport Authorities: Advised to rigorously check the fitness of private vehicles involved in Yatra convoy movement. The aim is to minimize breakdowns and ensure pilgrim safety during transit.
• Fire and Emergency Services: Directed to conduct mock fire drills, install fire extinguishers, and ensure CCTV surveillance at all langar sites and high-footfall areas.
Security & Awareness Measures:
The Inspector General of Police stressed the importance of maintaining a robust security apparatus throughout the Yatra. He encouraged pilgrims to travel in official convoys and adhere strictly to cutoff timings. Law enforcement agencies were asked to utilize digital, print, and electronic media to circulate advisories widely, minimizing risks during the journey.
Integrated Control Room and Final Coordination:
A centralized Control Room will be established at Yatri Niwas to function as a 24×7 monitoring and response hub. All line departments are required to depute field staff and representatives to the control room by June 20, ensuring round-the-clock coordination.
The meticulous review reflects the administration’s commitment to ensure a smooth, secure, and spiritually fulfilling Yatra for the devotees of Lord Shiva. With the joint efforts of civil and security agencies, the Bhagwati Nagar base camp is being transformed into a well-equipped hub capable of managing the logistical and spiritual needs of the Amarnath pilgrims.
As the countdown to the Yatra begins, the focus remains on safety, efficiency, and service — reaffirming Jammu’s role as the crucial starting point for one of India’s most revered spiritual pilgrimages.
