J&K Police Crackdown on Narcotics: Three Arrested with Heroin, Cash, and Mobiles in Samba

Samba : In a significant step towards combating the growing menace of drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Samba district have apprehended three notorious drug peddlers, including two women, in separate operations conducted near Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur. The arrests led to the recovery of approximately 21 grams of heroin, four mobile phones , a weighing machine, and cash totaling Rs 38,770.
First Operation:A special vehicle-checking naka was set up by a team from Police Station Vijaypur, led by SHO Vijaypur under the supervision of SDPO Vijaypur and SSP Samba.A bike without a registration number was intercepted near Rakh Barotian. Upon checking, police recovered:
– 11.43 grams of heroin
– Four mobile phones
– A weighing machine
– Rs. 24,630 in cash.
The accused were identified as Bhag Ali @Ashiq Ali and his sister Meenu, both residents of Rakh Barotian.
Both have been actively involved in supplying drugs to addicts in the Vijaypur area. A case (FIR No. 155/2024) has been registered under the NDPS Act, and investigations are underway.
Second Operation:In another operation at Rakh Barotian, a team from the same police station apprehended Roshan Bibi @ Lalu , also a resident of Rakh BarotianDuring the search, police recovered 8.90 grams of heroin
Cash worth Rs 14,140.
A separate case (FIR No. 156/2024) has been registered under the NDPS Act for this incident.Both operations highlight the role of local drug peddlers in supplying heroin to addicts in Samba district. The arrested individuals, hailing from the same locality, are believed to be part of a network engaged in narcotics trade.
SSP Samba emphasized the police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace. He warned that stringent action would be taken against individuals involved in narcotics trade. The district police have intensified operations, including setting up special checkpoints and deploying teams to target drug supply chains.
The arrests are a crucial step in disrupting the local narcotics network. Police have urged residents to report any suspicious activities to assist in curbing the drug trade. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to rehabilitate drug addicts through awareness campaigns and support programs.
The seizure of heroin, mobile devices, and cash underscores the financial and logistical scale of the drug trade in the region. The police’s continued vigilance and strong legal actions are expected to deter such activities and protect the community from the adverse effects of narcotics.
