JAMMU/SRINAGAR:In a sweeping and swift administrative overhaul aimed at ensuring robust public safety and crisis preparedness, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has rolled out an array of extraordinary measures, activating round-the-clock control rooms and placing stringent restrictions on government staff leaves amid the prevailing sensitive situation.
In the heart of the Kashmir Valley, District Magistrate Srinagar has ordered the immediate establishment of a 24×7 Joint Control Room at the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC), DC Office Srinagar, signaling a comprehensive strategy to enhance real-time coordination between departments and act as a reliable grievance redressal hub for civilians in distress.
This control room will operate without interruption, day and night, to:
Synchronize interdepartmental emergency responses
Monitor on-ground developments minute-by-minute
Address public complaints and queries as they arise
Act as a direct interface for citizen concerns during any emergency or volatile situation
The public can contact the Srinagar Joint Control Room via the following dedicated helpline numbers:
Landlines: 0194-2483651, 0194-2457552, 0194-2457543
Mobile/WhatsApp: 9103998355, 9103998356, 9103998357, 9103998358
Meanwhile, in Jammu, a similar Joint Control Room has been activated to ensure seamless communication and civilian support. Citizens in the Jammu region can reach out for help or information at these essential helpline numbers:
Landlines: 0191-2546220, 0191-2545730
Mobile/WhatsApp: 9541925374, 9541925375, 9541925376
This dual-region deployment of continuous operational centers underscores the administration’s readiness to mitigate any potential emergency — natural or man-made.
Simultaneously, the General Administration Department (GAD) has issued an unprecedented directive to all Administrative Secretaries and Department Heads across the Union Territory: no government employee is to be granted any kind of leave unless under the most exceptional of circumstances.
This blanket leave embargo is expected to ensure maximum manpower availability, swift decision-making, and non-stop public service delivery during this critical period. The government’s strict stand reflects the urgency and seriousness of the unfolding situation, although it has not officially detailed the exact nature of the concerns.
An official from the GAD, on condition of anonymity, stated: “These are precautionary steps to strengthen the existing administrative machinery. Our focus is to be available for every citizen and maintain a robust presence on the ground.”
Civic Preparedness Meets Bureaucratic Resolve:
From the deployment of control rooms to the suspension of leaves, the measures speak volumes about the government’s anticipatory vigilance. In times when even a delay of minutes can cost lives or escalate tensions, such preparedness can become the thin line between chaos and control.
Citizens are encouraged to stay alert, report any untoward activity, and cooperate with authorities. All departments, including police, fire & emergency services, medical teams, and civil defence, have been placed on high alert.
As Jammu and Kashmir braces itself, this meticulous planning and high-level administrative mobilisation highlight a clear message: readiness is no longer an option — it is a necessity.
Stay vigilant. Stay informed. Reach out. The helplines are live — and so is the government’s resolve.
