A video of Senior Advocate Sheikh Shakeel questioning the Hon’ble Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking a debate on the state of public services in Jammu.
In the video, Sheikh Shakeel begins with a respectful greeting, “Mahapursh ji adabaraz , Namaste, Jai Bhim, and Sat Sri Akal,” before addressing a critical issue. He points out the time, noting, “Mahapursh ji, look at the time, it’s 11:40, and there is no electricity in this smart city upgraded with smart meters.”
Shakeel questions the efficacy of the smart meters that were promised to ensure uninterrupted power supply in fully metered areas. He asks, “Your good self has asked the Jammu people to install smart meters, promising uninterrupted power supply.
Why then are there power cuts from 12 midnight to 1:30 am, and again from 2 am to 3:30 am?
What are the reason for these unscheduled cuts?”
He further challenges the Lt. Governor by drawing a comparison with Raj Bhawan, the official residence of the LG. “If these unscheduled cuts happened in your Raj Bhawan, where you stay and have paid your electricity bills with smart meters installed, what would be your reaction?” Shakeel asks pointedly.
Sheikh Shakeel accuses the administration of living a luxurious life with VIP electricity lines, while the people of Jammu suffer. “Mahapursh ji, you came here to live a luxurious life with VIP electricity lines, but think about the people of Jammu as well. What is their fault? Why are there unscheduled night electricity cuts? Why are they deprived of sleep in their homes despite paying their electricity bills?”
In a poignant conclusion, Shakeel questions the treatment of the people of Jammu, who are often seen as nationalists. “Why are the people of Jammu being deprived of basic amenities like electricity just because they are nationalists? They always have the national flag in their hands.”
He ends by urging the Hon’ble Lt. Governor to look into the matter and hold the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) accountable for these unscheduled electricity cuts despite residents paying hefty electricity bills.
Sheikh Shakeel’s message to the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha is clear and multifaceted:
1. Accountability for Unscheduled Power Cuts : Shakeel wants the Lt. Governor to acknowledge and address the frequent and unscheduled power cuts in Jammu, despite the installation of smart meters that were supposed to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
2.Equitable Treatment: He emphasizes that the people of Jammu, who diligently pay their electricity bills, deserve the same quality of service as the residents of Raj Bhawan, implying that there should be no disparity in the treatment of ordinary citizens and those in power.
3.Responsibility Towards Citizens: Shakeel urges the Lt. Governor to think about the plight of the common people who suffer due to power cuts, especially during night hours, and to take necessary actions to improve their living conditions.
4.Inquiry into JKPDCL’s Performance: He requests the Lt. Governor to investigate the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) and hold them accountable for the unscheduled power cuts.
5.Recognition of Nationalist Spirit: Shakeel highlights that the people of Jammu, known for their nationalism and patriotism, should not be deprived of basic amenities like electricity. He suggests that their commitment to the nation should be reciprocated with reliable public services.
Overall, Sheikh Shakeel is calling for immediate attention and corrective measures to ensure consistent and fair electricity supply in Jammu, reflecting the administration’s commitment to the welfare of all its citizens.
The video has sparked a significant online debate, with many users expressing their frustration and solidarity with the concerns raised by Sheikh Shakeel.
