JAMMU – In a show of solidarity, resilience, and respect for those who have sacrificed their lives, Jammu’s police department led a striking motorcycle rally on Sunday to honor its fallen heroes amid heightened security in the region. The rally, organized under the stewardship of the Jammu Police and graced by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain, aimed to remember police personnel who laid down their lives combating terrorism in the past three decades.
Addressing reporters at the event, ADGP Anand Jain expressed the rally’s heartfelt mission: “The rally was organized to remember and pay tribute to the fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives. We have a lot of police personnel who were martyred in the fight against terrorism.” His words echoed the solemn dedication of the police force to their duty and sacrifice in the face of escalating terror threats.
As Jammu and Kashmir brace for the festival season, recent terror attacks – notably in Kashmir, where two soldiers lost their lives and a dozen civilians were tragically killed over the past week – have amplified security concerns. In response, Jain assured the public that comprehensive measures are in place to ensure that Diwali and other upcoming festivals remain peaceful and secure. “All measures have been taken to ensure a peaceful Diwali and other festivals,” he said, underscoring the police department’s vigilant efforts amid the turbulent climate.
The motorcycle rally, an inspiring sight, saw over 100 motorcyclists – primarily from the police department – riding through Jammu’s streets to pay homage to those who have shown the ultimate patriotism. Jain, who flagged off the rally, highlighted its purpose as a call to awareness and unity, “to spread awareness about patriotism and the importance of service to the nation.” The event’s reach was further amplified by the support of local biking groups and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), who joined forces to honor the valor of police martyrs and reinforce bonds with the community.
A police spokesperson, reflecting on the rally’s success, stated that it went beyond a mere tribute; it served as a means to strengthen ties between police officers and citizens. “The overwhelming support of the police, local biking groups, and NGOs underscored the department’s commitment to honoring its martyrs and strengthening its relationship with the public,” the spokesperson said, marking the event as a significant step toward fostering a unified front in the face of adversity.
Complementing the rally was a marathon, aptly titled “Run for Unity,” held earlier in the day and organized as part of the tribute series. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Shiv Kumar Sharma of the Jammu-Kathua-Samba range flagged off the marathon from Hari Niwas, where a surge of over 250 citizens – from school students to senior residents – gathered to show their solidarity with the police. School students not only participated in the run but also enlivened the event with musical performances, which added a stirring tribute to the morning.
This weekend’s events showcased the unwavering dedication of Jammu’s police to both honoring their own and providing a sense of security and unity for the public. In the face of mounting security challenges, Jammu stands resolute, with its police force leading the charge toward a peaceful and secure festival season.
