In an unsettling turn of events, two high-profile deaths have sent shockwaves through Jammu and Kashmir and beyond, raising questions about the safety and integrity of officials involved in crucial investigations and military service. The mysterious demise of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Deputy Superintendent and an Army Major, both under enigmatic circumstances, has triggered demands for thorough and impartial probes.
**CBI DySP’s Mysterious Death**
CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), Prashant Sharma investigating high-profile corruption cases in Jammu and Kashmir died in a road accident igniting a storm of speculation and concern.
Prashant Sharma, son of Dharampal Sharma, a resident of Paloura Jammu, was posted as DySP in the CBI office at Panama Chowk, Jammu, was riding his motor-cycle when he met with an accident. He was shifted to Medical College Hospital by some people, who were witness to the accident.
Local news gathering agencies’ reports said that the deceased DySP was moving towards Jewel Chowk on his motor-cycle from the Bus Stand when he met with an accident.
Gaon Tribune, a website quoting eyewitnesses said between 11 and 11.30 pm, DySP Prashant Sharma met with an accident between Jewel Chowk and Bus-Stand.
As per police record, “On 26-04-2024 at about 2357 hrs, Dy. SP Prashant Sharma (posted in CBI Jammu) age 52 yrs S/O Dharam Pal Sharma R/O Paloura, Jammu was admitted in GMC Jammu due to RTA at Jewel (Bullet motorcycle skidded off), further referred to DMC Ludhiana, Punjab where he died on way. Dead body shifted to GMC Jammu for medico-legal formalities.”
Some locals shifted him to Government Medical College Hospital in critical condition, the reports said.
“A DySP rank officer of the CBI met with an accident near the Bus Stand between 10.30 pm to 11.30 pm. He was shifted to the GMC Jammu”, a senior police officer said and added that due to his critical condition, he was referred to a private hospital in Ludhaina, Punjab but he succumbed to his injuries on the way, Gaon Tribune report said.
The deceased officer was at the helm of probing significant corruption scandals, including the award of a contract for the J&K Employees Health Care Insurance Scheme to a private company and the release of Rs 60 crore in 2017-18. Furthermore, he was investigating the 2019 award of a contract worth approximately Rs 2200 crore for civil works of the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project (HEP) to another private firm.
In November 2022, the CBI filed a chargesheet implicating 24 individuals, including high-ranking officials, in these scams. The investigation unearthed a complex conspiracy involving the theft and sale of question papers, implicating multiple parties across different states.
The sudden death of the DySP has raised alarms, leading political parties to call for a transparent investigation.PDP leaders have been vocal in demanding an impartial probe. “PDP @jkpdp calls for impartial, time-bound and credible investigation. Given the fact that the Late Dy SP has been investigating very crucial cases, there should be no room for doubts about the circumstances. We express our deepest sympathies with the family of the deceased officer,” Naeem Akthar posted on social media.
**Army Major’s Suspicious Demise**
In a parallel narrative of mystery and grief, the family of Major Mubarak Singh Padda is grappling with the tragic and unclear circumstances surrounding his death. The misinformation circulating about his demise has further compounded their distress, leading them to seek justice and truth.
Major Mubarak passed away under mysterious circumstances, with the cause still under investigation. Contrary to unverified claims by Major Amit Singh, who alleged that Major Mubarak shot himself, the family insists these assertions are baseless. Major Amit, a batchmate of Major Mubarak, was not posted with him and has no firsthand knowledge of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir as he is posted in Pune.
The family’s frustration is palpable as they recount how Major Amit manipulated the cremation proceedings and disseminated false information. He interfered with final rituals, misrepresented family intentions, and abruptly left after giving a misleading interview. His claims about family matters, such as the health of his grandfather, were also found to be false.
Major Mubarak’s brother, Gurjot Singh Padda, a Merchant Navy officer, has urged the public and media to await the official investigation results before drawing any conclusions. The family’s call for patience underscores the need for factual clarity in this emotionally charged situation.
**Interwoven Fates, Separate Battles for Truth**
The deaths of the CBI DySP and Major Mubarak Singh Padda, both distinguished by their service and dedication, have cast a pall of suspicion and intrigue. The common thread of mystery that links their untimely demises highlights the broader issues of integrity, justice, and transparency within crucial public and military sectors.
As investigations continue, the bereaved families and concerned political figures echo a unified demand: a thorough, impartial, and transparent probe that honors the legacy of these men and uncovers the truth behind their tragic ends.
**Conclusion**
The intertwined stories of the CBI DySP and Army Major’s mysterious deaths emphasize the need for rigorous and unbiased investigations to uphold the principles of justice and accountability. Their lives, marked by service and sacrifice, deserve nothing less than the truth.
