In the rugged terrain of Kulgam district, yet another chapter in the ongoing anti-terrorism efforts unfolded as security forces successfully neutralized a third terrorist following a fresh exchange of fire on Wednesday.

The operation, which began with a cordon and search in Redwani area late Monday night, has now resulted in the elimination of three terrorists, including a top TRF commander, Basit Dar, and his accomplice.

This latest encounter marks a significant milestone in the battle against terrorism in Jammu-Kashmir. The third terrorist, identified as Momin Mir, was the last remaining threat in the area after Dar and his associate were eliminated on Tuesday. Mir, who had managed to evade capture by seeking refuge on the top floor of a house, was ultimately cornered and neutralized by the relentless efforts of the security forces.

The development comes just a day after the elimination of Basit Dar, a high-profile target who was a key commander of the Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot TRF. Dar, who featured prominently on security agencies’ ‘most wanted list’ with a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head, was implicated in over 18 cases of violence, including the killing of police personnel and civilians, as confirmed by the Inspector-General of Police Kashmir.

The intensity of the encounter underlines the dedication and precision of the security forces, who have been conducting meticulous search and combing operations in the region to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure the safety of local residents. The operation, which initially commenced on Monday based on intelligence reports regarding terrorist presence, escalated into a multi-day engagement resulting in a decisive blow against terrorist activities in the area.

Meanwhile, security forces across Jammu-Kashmir have intensified their vigilance, extending operations into the Poonch and Rajouri districts in pursuit of individuals responsible for the recent attack on an Indian Air Force convoy that claimed the life of a corporal rank personnel.
