Poonch: In a sudden escalation of violence, a fresh encounter broke out in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The incident marks yet another chapter in the ongoing conflict in the region, drawing attention to the volatile security situation.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police reported an exchange of fire between security forces and unidentified terrorists in the dense forests of Bufliaz in Poonch district. The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps reported on X (formerly known as Twitter) that one body had been recovered from the encounter site, although the identity of the slain terrorist was still unconfirmed. The search for any additional militants continued, underscoring the relentless efforts of the security forces to curb insurgency activities.

Arrest of a Hizbul Mujahideen Operative…

Adding to the series of security operations, the forces also made a significant arrest in Kupwara’s Handwara sub-district. On Sunday night, a joint operation led to the capture of Zakir Hamid Mir, a known operative of the Hizbul Mujahideen, one of the most prominent militant groups operating in the region. Mir, a resident of Kachri in Chogal, had been in close contact with a handler based in Pakistan, identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir of Mirtigam in Handwara.
