Teachers Are Nation Builders, Girls’ Education Key To Women-Led Development: President Murmu
Stressing the central role of teachers in shaping India’s future, President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that while smart classrooms and modern facilities have their place, the most crucial factor in education remains “smart teachers.”
Speaking on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the President said, “Smart teachers are those who understand the developmental needs of their students. With affection and sensitivity, they make learning both interesting and effective.” Such teachers, she added, help students grow into individuals capable of meeting the needs of society and the nation.
Underscoring the importance of educating girls, Murmu said that investing in girls’ education amounts to making an “invaluable investment” in building families, communities, and the country at large. “Providing the best possible education to girls is the most effective way to promote women-led development,” she said.
Citing provisions under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the President highlighted its emphasis on expanding Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and providing special educational support to girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. She urged teachers to pay particular attention to students who are shy or come from less privileged sections, saying the impact of any reform ultimately depends on teachers’ commitment.
On the broader vision of the NEP, Murmu said the policy seeks to position India as a global knowledge superpower. “For this, our teachers must be recognized as among the best in the world. They have to contribute actively in school education, higher education and skill education,” she said.
Expressing confidence in the teaching community, the President said, “Our teachers will play a crucial role in establishing India as a Global Knowledge Superpower.”
