Smriti, Jemimah And Deepti Named In ICC Women’s World Cup Team Of The Tournament
India opener Smriti Mandhana, all-rounder Deepti Sharma, and batter Jemimah Rodrigues have been named in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Team of the Tournament.
The trio features alongside three players from runners-up South Africa — captain Laura Wolvaardt, Marizanne Kapp, and Nadine de Klerk — as well as three Australians: Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, and Alana King. Two English players, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone, and Pakistan’s Sidra Nawaz complete the lineup.
The openers faced each other in the final, with Mandhana chosen to partner Wolvaardt at the top of the order. The pair finished as the tournament’s top run-scorers, with Wolvaardt leading with 571 runs at an average of 71.37 — the highest individual aggregate in any ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup — highlighted by consecutive centuries in the semi-final and final.
Mandhana, meanwhile, scored a century against New Zealand in the league stage and concluded the tournament with 434 runs at an average of 54.25.
Her teammate Rodrigues takes the No. 3 spot after her memorable, match-winning knock of 127 not out, which powered India into the final at Australia’s expense. Sharma, another Indian standout, was selected after topping the bowling charts with 22 wickets, including a crucial spell in the title clash.
The Proteas are well represented alongside Wolvaardt. Kapp reclaimed her place in the team after another stellar all-round display, scoring two half-centuries and taking 12 wickets — including five for 20 against England in the semi-final — which helped her become the leading wicket-taker in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup history.
Her teammate Nadine de Klerk also impressed with both bat and ball, scoring an unbeaten 84 off 54 balls in the league-stage win over India and claiming nine wickets in total.
Australian bowlers Alana King and Annabel Sutherland both earned selection. King made history with a seven-wicket haul against South Africa, conceding just 18 runs — the best bowling figures across all editions of the Women’s World Cup. Sutherland finished with 17 wickets, just behind Sharma, and scored an unbeaten 98 to guide her team past England in the group stage. She shared a 180-run stand with Ashleigh Gardner, who scored her second century of the tournament and also took seven wickets overall.
Pakistan’s Sidra Nawaz was picked as wicketkeeper, finishing her campaign with three catches and four stumpings. She took a stunning catch on the leg side to dismiss India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and showcased lightning reflexes to stump Kim Garth in the match against Australia.
England spinner Ecclestone rounds off the XI after taking 16 wickets at an average of 14.25, including four-wicket hauls against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Her teammate Sciver-Brunt, who contributed 262 runs and nine wickets, was named the 12th player following an impressive first World Cup as captain.
The selection panel comprised commentators Ian Bishop, Mel Jones, and Isa Guha, along with Gaurav Saxena (ICC General Manager – Events and Corporate Communications) and journalist Estelle Vasudevan.
